Bundles
Bundle Types
An overview of xBundle's four bundle types, Fixed, Multipack, Mix & Match, and Frequently Bought Together, and how to create each one.
Understanding Bundle Types
Bundle Types Overview
xBundle offers four different bundle types, each designed for a specific selling strategy. Choosing the right type depends on what you’re selling and how you want to present the offer to your customers.
| Bundle Type | Best for | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed | Selling a curated set of products together | “Laptop + Case + Mouse for $899” |
| Multipack | Encouraging customers to buy more of the same product | “Buy 2 T-Shirts get 10% off, Buy 3 get 20% off” |
| Mix & Match | Letting customers build their own bundle from a selection | “Pick any 3 candles for $45” |
| Frequently Bought Together | Suggesting complementary products on a product page | “Customers also bought: Phone Case + Screen Protector” |
All bundle types support discounts (Percentage, Fixed Amount, Buy X Get Y, and Free Shipping), and all are displayed to your customers through the storefront widgets you turn on in Settings → Widgets bundles. See the Storefront Widgets guide for setup details.
Which type should I choose?
- If you want to pre-select exact products and offer them at a set price → Fixed
- If you want to sell more units of the same item with volume discounts → Multipack
- If you want to let customers pick their own combination → Mix & Match
- If you want to recommend related products that complement what the customer is viewing → Frequently Bought Together
You can create as many bundles as your plan allows and mix different types across your store. Only Active bundles count toward your plan’s limit: Free allows 5 active bundles, Starter 50, Growth 100, and Enterprise is unlimited. When you reach the limit, the Active status can no longer be selected and the Add bundle button is disabled until you upgrade or set another bundle to Draft.
What every bundle form has in common:
- A Title (up to 45 characters). Titles must be unique: you’ll see “This title already exists” if another bundle already uses it
- A product selection field with a Browse button. Clicking the field or Browse opens Shopify’s product picker, where you can choose products and, for products with several variants, the specific variants to include
- A Configure discounts card with an Add discount button. Each bundle (or each Multipack pack) holds one discount; see the Discounts & Pricing guide for the full options
- A Status selector (Active or Draft) and Save / Discard actions at the top of the page. Save stays disabled until the form is complete
Fixed Bundles
A Fixed bundle is a pre-built package of specific products sold together, usually at a special price. When you save it, xBundle creates a new product in your store with the bundle’s title, containing the selected products as its components. Customers buy it like any other product.
- You know exactly which products go well together
- You want to move specific inventory
- You want to offer a simple “buy this set” deal
How to create a Fixed bundle:
Add bundle
Go to Bundles, click Add bundle, and choose the type in the Select bundle type modal
Select Fixed
Select Fixed as the bundle type. The Create fixed bundle page opens
Enter a Title
Enter a Title (this becomes the name of the bundle product customers will see)
Select the included products
Under Included products, click the field or the Browse button and use the product picker to select the products (and variants) you want in the bundle. A Fixed bundle needs at least two items: two products, or two variants of one product
Configure your discount
Configure your discount (optional; see the Discounts & Pricing guide for details):
- Click Add discount, give it a Discount name, and choose a Discount type (Percentage, Fixed Amount, Buy X Get Y, or Free Shipping)
- Set the Discount value
- Optionally turn on Enable time-based discount (start and end dates) or Enable rule-based discount to add Quantity, Cart Value or Inventory conditions
Set the status
Set the Status:
- Draft: Saved but not visible to customers
- Active: Live on your storefront (counts toward your plan’s bundle limit)
Save
Click Save
Tips for Fixed bundles:
- Give your bundle a clear, descriptive title customers will understand (e.g., “Complete Skincare Kit” instead of “Bundle #1”)
- Choose products that naturally complement each other
- The right-hand column shows a Preview of the products you’ve selected and a Bundle Discounts Preview summarizing the discount you’ve configured. Check both before saving
- The bundle products xBundle created for your other Fixed or Mix & Match bundles don’t appear in the picker (a bundle can’t contain another bundle); regular products can be used in several bundles
- You can edit a Fixed bundle later from the Bundles page (see the Managing Bundles guide)
Multipack Bundles
A Multipack bundle encourages customers to buy multiple units of the same product by offering tiered volume discounts. Each Multipack is built around one product and offers several “packs” of different sizes.
- You sell consumable or repeat-purchase products (food, beauty, supplements, etc.)
- You want to increase units per order
- You want to offer “Buy 2 get 10% off, Buy 3 get 20% off” style deals
How to create a Multipack bundle:
Add bundle
Go to Bundles, click Add bundle, and choose the type in the Select bundle type modal
Select Multipack
Select Multipack as the bundle type. The Create multipack bundle page opens
Enter a Title
Enter a Title
Pick the multipack product
Under Multipack product, click the field or Browse and pick the single product for this multipack (you can include one or several of its variants)
Add your packs
Click Add multipack to create each pack. For each pack:
- Give it a Pack name (e.g., “2-Pack”, “3-Pack”) and set its Min quantity (the number of units in the pack)
- If the product has several variants, use Show pack variants to choose which variants are available in that pack
- Add exactly one discount in the pack’s Configure discounts card (Percentage, Fixed Amount, Free Shipping, or Buy X Get Y). Every pack must have a discount before you can save
- Optionally tick Mark as most popular on one pack’s discount: that pack is pre-selected for customers and gets the “Most Popular!” tag
- Example: a 2-pack at 10% off and a 3-pack at 20% off
You need at least two packs to save

How Multipacks appear on your store:
Customers see the available packs on the product page as selectable cards (sorted by pack size). Each card shows the pack name, the pack’s total price with the original price crossed out, and the saving (for example “Save 20%”, or “Free Shipping”). If you haven’t marked a pack as most popular, the first pack is pre-selected; with three or more packs, the second pack is tagged “Most Popular!”. The tag is shown as long as Show Popular Badges is turned on in the widget’s theme settings (it is by default). The customer picks a pack, then uses your theme’s regular Add to cart button, and xBundle adds the whole pack to the cart.
Tips for Multipack bundles:
- Make sure the tiered discounts make sense: each tier should offer a better deal than the previous one
- Keep it simple: 2-3 tiers is usually the sweet spot
- This bundle type works especially well for products that customers use regularly
Mix & Match Bundles
A Mix & Match bundle lets customers choose their own combination of products from a selection you define. When you save it, xBundle creates a bundle product in your store whose page shows the selection.
- You want to give customers flexibility and choice
- You sell products in the same category that customers might want to combine (e.g., “Pick any 3 flavors”)
- You want to encourage discovery of new products
How to create a Mix & Match bundle:
Add bundle
Go to Bundles, click Add bundle, and choose the type in the Select bundle type modal
Select Mix & Match
Select Mix & Match as the bundle type. The Create bundle mix & match page opens
Enter a Title
Enter a Title
Select the included products
Under Included products, click the field or Browse and select all the products (and variants) customers can choose from. You need at least two products
Configure your discount
Configure your discount (optional):
- Click Add discount, choose a Discount type and set the value
- Optionally turn on Enable rule-based discount and add conditions (for example a Quantity condition with a minimum number of items) for when the discount applies
Set the status

Click Save
How Mix & Match appears on your store:
Customers see a card for each product in the selection, with a quantity selector (1 to 10) and a variant dropdown where relevant. They click Add on the products they want (the button changes to Added), watch the running total and item count update, then use your theme’s Add to cart button to add the whole selection. The discount is applied at checkout once the selection meets the conditions you set (e.g., a minimum number of items or a minimum cart value).
Tips for Mix & Match bundles:
- Include enough products to give real choice (at least 5-6 options work well)
- Make sure all products in the selection are at a similar price point for fairness
- Use clear titles like “Build Your Own Gift Box, Pick 4 Items”
Frequently Bought Together (FBT)
Frequently Bought Together bundles display product recommendations on a product page, showing items that complement what the customer is viewing.
- You want to cross-sell related products
- You want to increase average order value with minimal effort
- You want to show “Customers also bought…” suggestions
How to create an FBT bundle:
Add bundle
Go to Bundles, click Add bundle, and choose the type in the Select bundle type modal
Select Frequently Bought Together
Select Frequently Bought Together as the bundle type. The Create frequently bought together bundle page opens
Enter a Title
Enter a Title. It’s required: Save stays disabled until the title, the main product and at least one recommendation are in place
Select the main product
Under Main product, click the field or Browse and select the main product. This is the product whose page will show the FBT widget. Products that are already the main product of another FBT bundle, and the bundle products xBundle created for your Fixed or Mix & Match bundles, aren’t offered. The main product can’t be changed once the bundle is saved
Add recommended products
Add recommended products using the Manual, Automatic and Random tabs (you need at least one recommendation from any tab):
- Click Add Products to hand-pick up to 4 products to recommend
- Best when you know exactly which products pair well
- Choose how many matches you want (3, 4 or 5) and click Find Matches. xBundle picks the products in your catalog most similar to the main product, based on product title, description, product type and tags
- Best for stores with lots of products where manual pairing would take too long
- Criteria-based fill: choose Same product type or Same tags, and xBundle pulls up to 3 matching products from your catalog. Use Clear to start over (Same tags is unavailable if the main product has no tags)
- Best for product discovery and variety
Configure your discount
Open the Discount tab to configure the FBT bundle’s discount (optional)

How FBT appears on your store:
On the main product’s page the widget (titled “Frequently Bought Together” by default) shows the main product and up to 7 recommended products, each with a checkbox, a variant dropdown where relevant and a running total. Customers untick anything they don’t want and click Buy this bundle now.
Recommendation priority:
When several recommendation sources are set, xBundle shows them on the storefront in this order:
- Manual recommendations show first (highest priority)
- Automatic recommendations come next
- Random recommendations follow
- Global recommendations (Settings → All → Global recommendations, up to 5 products) are added last, after the bundle’s own recommendations. They’re appended to every FBT bundle in your store. Each FBT bundle picks up the global list when it’s saved, so after changing your global recommendations, re-save any existing FBT bundles you want to update
Because the widget shows at most 7 recommendations, sources lower in this order may be cut off when a bundle has many recommendations. The priority badges shown in the admin are labels only; the storefront always uses the order above.
Tips for FBT bundles:
- The main product never appears in the recommendations (xBundle removes it automatically)
- Products you add to the Manual tab are automatically removed from Automatic and Random to avoid duplicates, and Automatic picks are removed from Random
- The Bundle preview card on the right shows how the bundle will appear to customers, including the total and any discount
- Pair products that genuinely complement each other: if a customer is buying running shoes, recommend running socks, not a winter coat
